Product Release Wrap-up March 2017
Offline Flight, 3D Modeling, Inspire 2 and P4Pro Compatibility
The engineering team here at DroneDeploy has been busy over the last few months to bring our users a number of important improvements to make DroneDeploy easier to use and more reliable across a broader range of applications. Read on to learn about some of the most significant recent changes and improvements.
iOS and Android Apps Both Support Inspire 2, Phantom 4 Pro
If you’re an Android user who’s been waiting to use DroneDeploy with your new Inspire 2 or Phantom 4 Pro drone, the wait is over. Now DroneDeploy is compatible with the latest drones from DJI on both the Android and iOS apps — and we’re working hard to bring you support for the new Matrice 200 series once it hits shelves later this spring. To learn more, see our full list of supported drones.
Orbital Flight Mode for 3D Modeling
When we host our drone clinic webinars, one of the most common questions we get asked is how to make high-quality 3D models.
To improve the quality of 3D models, particularly of a building or structure, we recommend including oblique (angled) imagery captured when orbiting the structure. Capturing that orbital imagery has always involved either manual flight or automating the orbital flight using another app like DJI Autopilot, but now users can leverage DroneDeploy to complete an orbital flight and capture oblique imagery at the end of a mission.
Speed and Reliability Improvements
Sometimes changes happen behind the scenes that make a big difference — and the recent migration of DroneDeploy to a new development framework fall into that category. The result: 2–5x faster load times!
Intuitive Offline Flight
Need to fly offline in a remote area? While we have long made flight plans available offline, a recent update makes it much clearer which plans are available for offline flight. Just open the DroneDeploy dashboard on your mobile device while connected to Wifi or data, click the menu next to your flight plan, and select “Make Available Offline”. The dashboard will then clearly note that the plan is “Available Offline”. Learn more about offline flight planning.
The App Market Continues to Grow
The DroneDeploy App Market, launched in November, continues to grow quickly, both in terms of apps installed and new apps added to the marketplace. There are too many new apps to summarize in this post, but stay tuned for a more detailed update on the App Market coming within the next few weeks.
